ITRA strongly condemns the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and expresses its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all the victims. We call for an immediate halt to the violence and to restore peace.
ITRA is not a political organization, but the war affects civil society and is a clear breach of international law and the Olympic Charter. Once again, we reiterate our desire for peace and stand with all those who work towards this.
The International Olympic Committee has issued the following statement:
“In order to protect the integrity of global sports competitions and for the safety of all the participants, the IOC EB recommends that International Sports Federations and sports event organizers not invite or allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions.”
Reflecting this position and being a partner of World Athletics in the organization of official competitions, ITRA would not support any Russian or Belarusian bid to host the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships or participation in those championships by Russian or Belarusian athletes or teams.
